We finally left Skidaway Island Park today. Sometimes our stays get extended because we just need to slow down and "rest", other times because we just don't feel like the time is right to leave and sometimes, of course, the weather. This time it was the first two and lo-and-behold, we met some great people we wouldn't have met if we'd left as planned! Billy and Sherrie were camping a few spots away from us and we hit it off right away. They're on their way back to Shreveport, LA after meeting up with their daughter in Greensville, SC. And this morning, after riding all night, Mike pulled in on his brand new (bought yesterday) Yamaha V-Star motorcycle. The boys loved talking with him! He is was a very nice grad student out for a few days traveling on his new bike.
We're in a GREAT campground tonight. The James Island County Park is the nicest campground/RV park we've stayed in yet. Considering we've camped now 45 times, that's saying something. This park has a water park, dog park/beach, kayak/paddleboat rentals, fishing lake, playgrounds, biking trails (paved), climbing tower, and more. It's very well manicured and very popular! We didn't have a reservation, thinking arriving on a Thursday wouldn't be a problem but we were wrong. They are full up this weekend but we did get a spot, luckily. We'll have to move our trailer about 60 feet to another site on Saturday due to previous reservations, but that's okay. It's a REALLY fun park!

We had a beautiful sunny day to drive from Waycross to Savannah. We are staying on Skidaway Island at the State Park. It's a beautiful park, filled with Oak trees and Spanish Moss. We'll be here until Saturday at least. There's a lot to do in Savannah so we don't know exactly how long we'll stay (what's new!).
Saturday, April 26, 2008
Sweet Georgia Brown! Another whopper of a travel day, 90 miles woo hoo! We are staying the weekend at Laura Walker State Park outside of Waycross, Georgia. This is the first state park in Georgia named for a woman. It is just North (?) of the Okeefenokee Swamp Park.

Well we had to drag ourselves away from beautiful weather in Navarre this morning but we were going to meet up with old friends from Chino Hills that moved to Jacksonville a year ago, so that made it easier! The weather was a little cold and a lot windy for most of our stay in Navarre, but as it turned pleasant, we kept extending our departure.
We turned in our longest mileage day of the trip yet, 370 miles. Fortunately it was not the longest travel "time" because it was almost all on Interstate 10, 65 MPH the whole way (except for the two fuel stops)! We are at a city park in Atlantic Beach, Fl (just east of Jacksonville) that has been likened to a scene out of Jurassic Park. Sure enough, we pulled in just after sundown and drove under spanish moss draped trees, heard bull frogs croaking and was told there are 'gators in the lake! Kathyrn Abbey Hanna Park is the place, check it out here. We'll be here until Saturday, when we'll head into Georgia with our friends, the Bannisters.

Whew, what a killer drive today! 64.3 miles can you believe it? Joss took this one all by herself while Robert read to the kids. We're finally in Florida!!! We say finally because to us, Florida is the East Coast. However, we're stretching it a bit. We're just barely into the western edge of the state. We're in a town called Navarre. It's about 25 miles West of Destin Florida, where Robert's cousin Pam lives. We're looking forward to visiting and sitting on the sand for a week.
Wednesday, April 9, 2008
Well 9 hours after we left Baton Rouge, Louisiana and crossed through Mississippi, we arrived at our campground about 15 miles south of Mobile, Alabama. Another 3 state day! Although the roads are rough in Louisiana, we were still going to give the award for roughest roads to Oklahoma City. That was until we opened the door to the boys room tonight and found the mirrored wardrobe door off the track and smashed on their carpet! We used to complain about I-10 in the Ontario, CA area. Well that is nothing compared to I-10 in Eastern Louisiana!
We're going to the USS Alabama battleship park tomorrow and then on to Navarre Beach, Florida on Friday to meet up with our cousin Pam!
Thursday, April 3, 2008
We have arrived in Louisiana! We left Vicksburg this morning and drove down Highway 61 to Natchez to see the Monmouth Plantation. Natchez is a beautiful city! We were wishing we'd spent 4 days here instead of Vicksburg (sorry Vicksburg). We continued south to Baton Rouge, LA. We're at the Farr Park and Equestrian Center for the next five or so nights.
Saturday, March 29, 2008
Greetings from Vicksburg, Mississippi! Today we left Caddo Lake Texas under rainy skies, drove into and through Louisiana and landed here in historic Vicksburg. Three states in one day, a new first for the Gypsies. We're going to take in the Coca-Cola museum, the Civil War battleground, some garden tours and whatever crosses our path for a few days. Then we're going down to Natchez, MS which as you know, was the 4th richest city in the States, before the Civil War.
Sunday, March 23, 2008 - Happy Easter!
We left the Oklahoma City area on Friday and went to Lake Cypress Springs, near Scroggins, Texas. We were visiting with our friend Mark, at a friend of his, Shawn's, house on the lake. We left this morning and drove southeast to Caddo Lake State Park. It was an easy drive, one that took us through the historic town of Jefferson, Texas. (Isn't there a "historic" town named Jefferson in every state?) We got the last full hookup, pull-through site they had. Caddo Lake is on the border of Texas and Louisiana, 1,349 miles (as the crow flys) from Chino Hills, in case you were wondering. This is the farthest we've been from our starting point yet.
Friday, March 14, 2008
We left our friend Barbi and her mom Florence in Lubbock, TX yesterday. We went through Amarillo to eat at "The Big Texan", home of the free 72 oz steak (some strings attached!). We stayed overnight in Elk City, Oklahoma. Yeah, another state! Today we got to Oklahoma City and are staying at the Central State Park campground at Arcadia Lake.
Saturday, March 8, 2008
We've headed south again in search of Alien life forms and warmer weather, and not in that particular order! We've changed our plans again (what's new) and we're outside of Roswell, NM at the Bottomless Lakes State Park. Another GREAT state park in New Mexico! We'll be here until Tuesday when we'll head to Lubbock Texas to visit a friend from Chino Hills.
Saturday, March 1, 2008
We are at the Cottonwood RV Park in Espanola, New Mexico. Joss drove us up from Albuquerque around noon today. We couldn't decide whether to stay in Santa Fe or Taos so we split the difference. Espanola is in-between the two, though closer to Santa Fe. There is a lot to do in this part of New Mexico so who knows how long we'll stay!
February 22, 2008
Yesterday we drove up from Alamogordo, via Las Cruces to Albuquerque. We went back through Las Cruces because we wanted to see Truth or Consequences (the City, not the game show!) The town was originally named Hot Springs but changed it in 1950 when Ralph Edwards announced he would film the game show from the first town that renamed itself "Truth or Consequences (ToC to the locals). Anyway, we weren't impressed so we kept driving to Albuquerque, only to find the RV Park we had planned on staying at was closing at 11:30 that night for an annual Indian blessing of the land. The RV Park is on and owned by the Isleta Pueblo Indian Nation. We were tired and it was getting late so we drove to the nearest Wal-Mart we could find (in a not so great area it turns out) to stay the night.
This morning we drove East of the town to a little spot along I-40 called Tijeras and we're at the Hidden Valley RV Park. We're going to stay here 4 or 5 days, visit Robert's cousin Sheryl and get some laundry done!
Sunday, February 17, 2008
After a quick trip to the Rockhound State Park, south of Deming NM, we headed by the White Sands Missile Base to our new campground. We're at the Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, about 15 minutes south of Alamogordo, NM. We are in a dry site (no water or power) but we might try to move to another site if one opens up.
Thursday, February 14, 2008
We've crossed another state line! New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. We're at the City of Rocks State Park and WOW is this ever cool!!! Wait 'til you see the pictures of our trailer backed in between some big rocks! Click the "blog" to see some quick pics.
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
We're finishing up our North to South trek across Arizona with this stay in Bisbee about 20 miles from the Mexican border. Bisbee and the Streett family go way back, about 80 years! Robert's Great Grandmother and two Great Aunts lived here all (most) of their lives. In fact, Robert's Great Aunt Ruth was the Postmaster (mistress?) of Warren/Lowell/Bisbee as it was called, for 50 years before she retired. Robert's Great Grandfather and Grandfather worked in the copper mines here for a spell also. We're planning on staying a week then moving into New Mexico!
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
We got into the Catalina State Park today, yeah! The rangers said it's pretty normal for the road to get washed over but it usually only happens in the Monsoon season (July/August). The campground is surprisingly full for a weekday, we're in the "B" campground, site 6 in case you're looking for us (don't tell the authorities though!)
Monday, January 28, 2008
We left Mesa and the Regional Park today (which was beautiful after a night of HEAVY rainfall... the trailer leaks we found out) and drove to the Tucson area. We had intended on staying at the Catalina State Park in Oro Valley, Arizona but we found it closed due to the river washing over the road! We tried another RV Park but found it was 55 and over (and that was just how old the park looked!). We have instead parked on the street in front of our friends, Scott and Judy Esbit (former owners of Chino Hills Health Foods)! It's another RVGypsy first...residential street camping. We're hoping to get into the State Park tomorrow.
Thursday, January 17, 2008
Well the Gypsies are split up for the first time in over 5 months! Joss is in Sedona at the Hyatt (roughing it we're sure) and Robert, the boys and Baylee are at the Usery Mtn. Regional Park in Mesa, just east of Phoenix a bit. We'll be here until the 27th unless we get a better offer!
Wednesday, January 16, 2008
We left Zion around 12:30, just after Robby earned his first Junior Ranger badge at the Visitor Center. He worked really hard on the handbook and rightfully earned the badge, hat and title! We drove Highway 89 through the Grand Staircase/Escalente National Monument. Wow, another beautiful area we'd love to explore more (when we're not pulling our house behind us!). We're staying the night at the Cameron Trading Post RV Park. We'll be going through Sedona tomorrow and then into the Phoenix area, where we'll stay through the 27th.
Thursday, January 10, 2008
We pulled into Zion canyon at sunset and were amazed at the coloring of the rocks and canyon walls. We found a campsite in the Watchman campground inside Zion National Park, its so beautiful here, we've decided to stay into next week. We'll leave from here and head to the Phoenix area.
Wednesday, January 9, 2008
We didn't get to leave Boise yesterday as planned because of snow but we did get out today. We made it Riverdale Utah, which is north of Salt Lake City about 30 miles we think. We had some scary moments on the interstate during the last 50 miles of Idaho. We saw one jack-knifed semi and a little later, an overturned Jeep in the center lane. We'll post some pictures to the blog about it. We're parked in a Wal-Mart lot for the night with the furnace on full. It's 25 degrees out and we're surrounded by snow. The waitress at dinner said this was the most snow they'd had in 5 years!
Monday, January 7, 2008
We're leaving Boise tomorrow and driving towards Salt Lake City. We say "towards" SLC because it's expected to snow and we don't know how far we'll make it. We are going to stay on I-84 so we shouldn't have any trouble.
Tuesday, January 1, 2008
After a few days on Sauvie Island, Portland Oregon, we have now moved on to Meridian, Idaho. It's just outside Boise so we're going to refer to this stop as Boise. We had beautiful sunny weather for our drive through the Columbia Gorge and up over the Blue Mountains in Eastern Oregon. Check out the Blog for a few pictures and stories. We're at the Boise/Meridian RV Resort where there's some snow on the frozen ground, it's in the teens at night and we have a poopcicle in our sewer line (you'll have to check the blog for that one).
Thursday, December 27, 2007
We left Sequim, WA this morning and almost immediately hit drizzle, which turned to rain, which turned to sleet, which turned to snow until we hit Olympia WA whereupon we had rain all the way to Portland Oregon! Sequim really is in a "blue hole" as they say. We took Hwy 101 to Olympia and while beautiful, what with all the snow covered pine trees, etc., it made for some white knuckle driving by Robert. We took it slow but the "local" drivers were blowing by us! Anyway, we're at the Reeder Beach RV Park on Sauvie Island, just NorthWest of Portland Oregon now.
Thursday, December 20, 2007
Just wanted to let you know, we're still here in Sequim. We are really liking this town and the people we've met. The managers of the RV Park, Pat and Frank, are the nicest folks! Not only do they save the morning paper for us, but Frank brings it over! They even walked Baylee the other day while we went to Seattle. Super nice people and we're very grateful. Last night, the ladies in the park got together for a cookie exchange in the clubhouse, yummy! It's nice being in a smaller RV Park where everyone knows and watches out for everyone else. (There are 28 campsites here.)
We're going to stay here until the 27tth, when we'll head down I-5 to the Vancouver, WA/Portland OR area. A few days there and then we'll decide what way to go to get to Arizona!!!
Friday, December 7, 2007
We're safely ensconced in the Gilgal Oasis RV Park in Sequim, Washington. We have all the luxuries of on-the-road living such as DSL internet connection, 50 amp electric service, sewer hookup for the trailer and shopping close by. We're going to venture out on Saturday and "see the town". Can you say Dungeness crab for lunch? I thought you could!
Thursday, December 6, 2007
We have returned from the Great White North! Oh Canada was a BLAST. We met a really nice family in our RV Park and spent much of our 9 days with them. More about that on the update/blog pages. For now, we just wanted to tell you we are in Sequim, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula. We're dry camping tonight at Wal-Mart and will check out the RV Parks tomorrow.
Tuesday, November 27, 2007
After boondocking in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Langely BC for two nights while the trailer was worked on, we're now in the Burnaby Caribou RV Park in Burnaby BC. We're backed into a supposedly 45 foot spot but I think it's a metric thing 'cuz we're sticking out a few feet. We're right on the other side of the freight line(s) and it just happens to be the main line coming out of the port. You should experience a fully loaded freight train roaring by when you're living in an aluminum and fiberglass house! The park only has 30amp electrical service and between our heaters, lights and microwave, we've already tripped the breaker. You should see Robert jump when Joss is about to turn on the blow dryer or microwave! He has to start turning off the heaters, etc. At least it's not as cold as it was in Langley. It iced up while we were in the Wal-Mart lot and snowed just a few hundred feet above us. Tonight it's about 36 ° F so we're doing okay!
We're going to do some laundry tomorrow and figure out the rest of the week. We might move to Vancouver Island and sight see from there. We have cell and (some) internet service in case you need us!
Sunday, November 25, 2007
Woo Hoo!!!! We've now gone INTERNATIONAL...we're in Canada ehh? It took an hour in the vehicle line, then two hours in the Canadian Border Inspection building. Who knew you can't take a taser gun into Canada?!!! We didn't that's for sure. We bought the taser just before the trip, just in case some nut broke into the trailer one night. Oh well, c'est la vie as they say in Eastern Canada. We're going to park in the Wal-Mart lot in Langley BC as it's a block from the dealer we're taking the trailer to in the morning.

Just a quick note to tell you we haven't driven off the side of a cliff or anything like that. We are enjoying Triangle Lake and the area so much...WE'RE STILL HERE! We still need to update from our week in Ashland and tell you about the new friends we made there. As for our stay in Triangle Lake, we have taken over 1,000 pictures in three weeks just to give you an idea of how busy we've been. We'll be leaving Triangle Lake this Saturday and moving to Portland Oregon or Vancouver Washington (not sure yet). Sorry for the long delay between updates.
